So if you’re just jumping into my blog-stream now, here’s what’s going on. I’m just a few weeks away from my 35th birthday and instead of just planning a party or making big plans on what I could do for me, I thought I’d take time and share about some of the people in my world who have influenced me, to become the person I am today! Please know that not everyone in my life is written about and everyone I’ve come in contact with, has had influence on my life, but these are the 35 people……
Day TWENTY ONE: Bobbi Houston (and Hillsong)…
As mentioned in my blog yesterday, I had 3 amazing years in Australia, not only attending Hillsong College http://hillsongcollege.com/ — but also serving, supporting and working around Hillsong Church – http://myhillsong.com/
Being raised in a Christian home, I knew allot about church and it was most definitely knew the role of church and faith, but it wasn’t until I moved literally halfway around the globe and sat in a completely new church “environment” that I came to realize what that could be – not just for humanity, but for ME! College classes were wonderful. Weekend services were great. Worship sets and the music was overwhelmingly awesome… but I think the most impactful thing about my time there was – having the chance to see strong women, who know their purpose and have the opportunity to walk that out – could be and to do that well!
Bobbie Houston, along with Brian, Pastors Hillsong Church, in Sydney and have impacted not only Australia but their influence has spread across the globe. While I was at Hillsong Church, Bobbie spent the first year or so of Thursday morning, Hillsong Women, now called “SisterHood” — speaking from Proverbs 31, and honestly without having full realization, my life was being changed. The truth of those verses, broken down and pulled apart week after week changed my perspective of what being a woman; strong, confident, giving, loving, living life fully, loving, showing value and worth to all humanity. I don’t know if I could say if what exactly the impact or change was, but my heart because different towards God. I started feeling like my faith was MY faith, not my parents or anyone else’s. I had so many defining moments at Hillsong Church, at college and sitting each week with a wonderful pastor, who spoke life over me.
There was one message where Bobbie challenged us to fine words to define us. To help be the guiding filter to do life through… I didn’t have to think too long — 2 words came – HELPER & COMPANION… in my limited perspective in that moment, I thought I knew what that was… but in the 10 years that have followed, those 2 words have been shaped, molded, defined, challenged, redefined and put into practice in more ways than I ever thought possible!
Thank you Bobbie and Brain for Hillsong Church and the impact you’ve had around the globe — but even more personally for me! I am thankful for the investment into my life. I so appreciate the call of God on your lives, on you “House” and for allowing me the honor to live there for a few years, to catch the mission and vision and to be changed forever!
